The Mike Morrissey Family

The Mike Morrissey Family

Mike Morrissey grew up in Toledo, Ohio.  His parents, Alan and Kathie Morrissey, are dedicated Christians and faithful members of Lewis Avenue Baptist Church pastored by Bro. Steve Hobbins.  Mike was the third of eight children born into the Morrissey family.  His parents’ greatest desire was to train their children to love and serve God, and they consistently worked to that end.  Mike’s mother led him to Christ at the age of five in their home in Toledo.  Mike surrendered to be a preacher several years later.

After graduating from high school, Mike enrolled in Hyles-Anderson College in September of 2003 with the intention of training for the pastorate.  However, God had a different plan.  During his first semester in college, Mike surrendered to go to the mission field under the preaching of Dr. Mike Cox.  The following semester, Mike changed his course of study to a major in world missions; he then began to pray that God would show him specifically in what country God would have him serve.  In November of 2004, under the preaching of Dr. Clarence Moore, Mike surrendered to go to the country of India.

A few months later, Mike began to date Ruth Christiansen, a pastor’s daughter from central Indiana.  The relationship blossomed, and soon after Mike’s graduation, he and Ruth were married on June 9, 2007.  Soon after they were married, Mike and Ruth applied and were accepted as members of the newly-formed India Team, sent out by First Baptist Church.   In July of 2008, Mike and Ruth began deputation to raise a portion of their personal support.  They crisscrossed the nation for 16 months, and then returned to Hammond, Indiana, to prepare for the India Team’s departure for India.  However, once again, God had a different plan.

Through a series of God-ordained events, the India Team became the Indo-Philippine Team, and in May of 2010, the Morrisseys flew to Bacolod, Philippines, where they would be blessed with the arrival of their first child, Elizabeth Joy Morrissey.
