A Praying Wife

Next to my salvation, the greatest gift God has given me is my sweetheart.  We’ve been married for over 15 years now and God has blessed our home with seven delightful (most of the time) children.  I owe so much to her for any success I may appear to have in the ministry.  For many years my wife has held the fort at home with the children while I’ve taken missions trips.  Like any good wife, she was not happy to have her husband away, but she’s never kept me from doing what I’ve known to be God’s will.  In fact, she has encouraged me and continues to encourage me.

Recently she shared with me something God has given her in her Bible reading.  I asked her to put it in writing so that I could share it with others…certainly to brag on her…but also so that she might be an encouragement to some other lady whose husband carries a heavy load in the ministry.  Here are her words.

“I love it when God gives me something from His Word that I’ve never seen before or seems very relevant to something I’m facing at a particular time! I don’t know how many times I have read the book of Colossians, but I know it’s been a lot in the years I’ve been saved.  As I sat down to read my Bible, I prayed that God would teach me something. Colossians 1:9-11 jumped out at me. ‘For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;’

“Many times as I pray for my husband, I don’t know exactly how or what to pray for him. I was very much feeling this way as I could see his burden and busyness. When I read this passage, I felt like God was telling me exactly how to pray for Randy.”

How thankful I am to have a praying wife.  How fortunate my children are to have a praying mother.  I’m also happy that the ladies on our team have her to look to for help and encouragement.  God knew exactly what He was doing when He custom made her for me!
